EmpoderaClima formalizes membership to the Brazilian Coalition for Climate Education

Along with 70 other players, the goal is to fight for education regarding climate in brazilian schools curriculums.

EmpoderaClima formally joined the Brazilian Coalition for Climate Education (CBEC) in the second week of august, following a strategy led by the institutional relations team. Aiming to bring awareness on the importance of climate education along with climate justice, the CBEC is made up of over 70 organizations, collectives, and individuals.

Joining the movement is also aligned with EmpoderaClima’s planning, which seeks to increase their impact and action in Brazil, where their registration process as an NGO (non-profitable organization) is currently ongoing. Therefore, the CBEC acts proposing public hearings, conversations with decision makers and themed forums, with the intent to advocate for the creation of climate education laws and public policies in city, state, and federal spheres.

According to the executive director and founder of EmpoderaClima, Renata Koch Alvarenga, climate education is the genesis of the organization, which, since 2019, compiles and produces high-quality content in four languages in order to make education on climate and gender more accessible. “To join the CBEC and to have the opportunity to fight for this cause inside Brazilian schools reinforces even more our commitment with climate justice and youth empowerment in Brazil. It’s not possible to fight the climate crisis without educating the youth for this challenge, considering the gender and climate justice lens”, says Renata.

About the Brazilian Coalition for Climate Education

The Brazilian Coalition for Climate Education (CBEC) is an initiative formed by organizations, collectives and individuals who are committed to promote education regarding climate change in Brazil. The coalition seeks to bring awareness on the importance of climate education along with climate justice, so that the Brazilian population can act consciously on the causes, effects, and solutions of climate change, in order to increase the country’s ability to handle these issues.

The CBEC believes that education is paramount to make people understand and face the challenges brought by climate change. With a long term view, their goal is to strengthen education on climate change in Brazil along with the main stakeholders from the climate field, thus making education indissoluble from the climate action fight.
